Golden & the Foothills
Twenty-five minutes from downtown Denver, the land tilts up and the lots open out.
Jefferson County
Golden sits where Clear Creek leaves the mountains, a historic county seat with a walkable Washington Avenue, the Colorado School of Mines and North and South Table Mountain standing over town. West and north of it, the foothills climb quickly: Golden Gate Canyon, Clear Creek Canyon and the ridges toward Coal Creek hold some of the most private acreage within commuting distance of the city.
Much of this country is bordered by public land. Jefferson County Open Space parks such as White Ranch and Centennial Cone, along with Golden Gate Canyon State Park, mean that a property line can end at a trailhead rather than a neighbor. That adjacency is a large part of what buyers are paying for here, and it is worth understanding in detail before an offer is written.
Housing character
Inside Golden you will find Victorian and early twentieth-century homes near downtown, mid-century neighborhoods on the mesas and newer construction along the edges of town. In the foothills the inventory changes completely: architect-designed contemporaries, log and timber homes, and working properties with barns and outbuildings on 5 to 80 acres. Elevations commonly run from roughly 6,500 to 9,000 feet, which shapes everything from snow load to growing season.
Getting around
Highway 93 runs north to Boulder, US 6 and Highway 58 connect to the metro area, and I-70 is close for the mountains. Golden Gate Canyon Road is the main artery for much of the acreage to the northwest. Farther south, US 285 serves Conifer and the surrounding foothills.
